Nashville, NC To Host Public Screening Of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows" On 8/19

Nashville Parks and Recreation & Cultural Resources Department’s Under the Stars Movie Series continues on Saturday 19th August 2017 with a shell of an event!

The department will present the second installment in Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Pictures' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film series along with a martial arts display by students and staff of the Nashville Academy of Martial Arts. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. at H.W. Glover Park on at 1782 N.C. 58.

The studio’s 2016 blockbuster takes a page from the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series, as it sees everybody’s favorite heroes in a halfshell facing off against Krang — an evil brain from Dimension X — and mutants Bebop and Rock Steady as they try to stop their nemesis Shredder from using a teleporter to help Krang take over the world. The movie is rated PG-13, so some parental guidance is recommended.

“Planning for our movie series started around January and February,” said Marguerite Bishop, director of Parks and Recreation & Cultural Resources. “We decided on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows as the series’ second movie because the previous movie was geared more towards younger audiences. This time, the movie is something geared more towards older age groups.”

She added attendance for the series’ lead event last month was not exactly as she had hoped but understood that weather might have played a part in those numbers.

“I think the hot temperatures probably kept a lot of people from coming out,” Bishop said. “It was still nice to see people show up. I am especially thankful for the car clubs who brought their cars and the town employees who brought the trucks as well as Wake Med for bringing out their helicopter.”

Saturday’s event is just the latest in the department’s summerlong series. Bishop said the department will celebrate the summer’s end on Saturday 16th September with a showing of Disney’s Moana. She said details for that movie’s event were still being worked out.

Columbia Pictures’ Kids' Choice Awards-winning 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, Ghostbusters: Answer The Call is on the schedule for Friday 27th October. Bishop said that movie will tie in to Nashville’s annual trick or treat event.
